Get up and glow

15 cm glow sticks, Web-Tex claim 12 hours for these but I've not checked! Usual story for glow sticks, snap and shake to activate. They come in 'assorted colours'; we seem to have yellow, orange and green. Mostly green. If you want a specific colour then we'll try and accomodate but no guarantees!

What about this blimmin' monster though? 30cm glow stick from Mil-Com, that's a bloody big glow stick!

Get cammed up!

Great for airsofters, hunters or soldiering, camo sticks from Web-Tex new in the store this week.
Dead simple, black at one end and dark green at t'other. When you're done the Web-Tex wipes are just the job for cleaning up.

Tatonka Burner

Three new items in the store from Tatonka.
Firstly their alcohol burner.

This piece of kit just oozes quality, made from stainless steel 18/8 and is yet just 95 grams. Fuel capacity is 120ml for a decent burn time.

To go along with the fuel burner is a rather nice simmer ring or flame adjuster . As the name suggests you plonk this on top of your burner to moderate the intensity of the flame from a roar to a more gentle heat so that you don't burn whatever it is you are cooking. Most alcohol burners without a simmer ring are good for boiling fluid as quickly as possible but sometimes you need a little more finesse!

Like the burner this is made from stainless steel 18/8 and as you might expect mates with the burner nicely for packing. It weighs just 30 grams

Finally the burner stand completes the line up. Plonk your burner in the stand, and your pot on top and you're in business.

Again made from stainless steel 18/8, the legs of the stand disassemble for a compact pack size and weighs just 120 grams. The whole shebang easily fits inside your billy can for carriage adding just 240grams to your pack weight.

Web-Tex Warrior Stoves

We've just added two stoves from Web-Tex.
Firstly the Warrior Compact Stove.

A very tidy little unit that takes up minimal space and only weighs 90g! This little fella comes in a rather neat plastic storage box.

At only £13.95 this is cracking value for either lightweight camping and hiking or as an emergency or back up stove.

Next up we have it's bigger brother, the Warrior Field Stove

This fella features wide legs for support on uneven ground and a braided hose for remote connection to your fuel source. Like the little un, this has adjustable gas flow but unlike the tiddler this one has it's own ignitor. The field stove comes in a little black drawstring bag.
I believe this is the one that John Fenna reviewed in Sporting Shooter, another great value stove at £17.99

Sabre 45 Buyer - happy chappy

Always nice to have a bit of positive feedback,

Having bought items from Lakeland Bushcraft in the past, I figured I'd go for the Karrimor SF Sabre 45L rucksack and a pair of side pockets. Even though our illustrious postal service "lost" the rucksack and delivered just the delivery note, Lurch sent me out a new one, special delivery straight away which arrived the next day. The service is impeccable, he keeps you updated with phone calls and emails and his prices are unbeatable.
As for the Karrimor, well it's the best rucksack I've used and it is replacing my current issue bergen for when I go overseas. I highly recommend the SF series and Lakeland Bushcraft for quality, customer care and value for money.

Even better when it's a Serviceman!

What's that chicken about?

It's not a chicken! It's a raptor, a bird of prey if you will.

Here in the Lake District we have quite a healthy population of raptors, but the one which is receiving quite a bit of attention is our breeding pair of ospreys. These set up home every year near Bassenthwaite lake, not too far from our warehouse. I must confess I've never seen them in the feather myself but I have seen an osprey hunting on the river Eden whilst Glyn Freeman was doing his best to teach me a bit of fly fishing.

This was the chap, come to see how we were getting on and clearly recognised a crap fisherman when he saw one so he wandered off to find his dinner elsewhere.
OK so our logo may not be quite anatomically correct for an osprey, but when was the last time you saw a blue raptor anyway?

International Shipping

Occasionally we get emails asking "Can you ship to..". For EU countries the answer is yes, but it'll cost ya. For reasons I don't pretend to understand international shipping is hugely expensive, especially so if you exceed 2kg weight. So to ship say a Karrimor SF Delta 35 to an EU country is around £15 but if you go up to the Karrimor SF Sabre 45 you get to around 3kg packed weight and the price shoots up to nearly £40 - not so good.
So for the time being we restrict ourselves to UK and BFPO addresses only, but if there's something you want us to send overseas contact us and we'll see if we can get a reasonable price but be warned that heavier items are unlikely to prove worth your while.

Shipping Charges

I'm sometimes asked about shipping charges. Why not have a sliding scale of charges depending on the item?
When we were setting up the shop I thought quite hard about shipping charges - it hurt!
On the one hand it would be nice to have a lower charge for smaller low value items, but then at the higher end people might expect a shipping discount for a high order. The heavier stuff tends to be the higher value products. Items like axes are heavy and high value but the margin for the Gransfors Bruks doesn't allow for much of a discount for shipping.
In the end I decided not to make things too complicated and just have a flat charge for an order regardless of the items purchased. Sometimes this may seem like a bad deal, if all you want is an O'Tom Tick Twister but if you are buying a Karrimor SF rucksack or a 2.5pt Kelly Kettle then you finish ahead as the £3.95 P&P doesn't cover the cost of shipping - especially when you take into account the fact we have to charge you 17.5% VAT on P&P, so we only get about £3.36 of that.

Our Philosophy

Here at Lakeland Bushcraft Trading we like to sell the kind of stuff that we like to buy, simple as that.
We also don't like to advertise stuff for sale that we don't have in stock. Some shops you see will advertise kit for sale and then go and buy it when they have a buyer. I don't know about you but when I make a purchase on line, I like to think that product will be winging it's jolly way to me within the next day or so. Not that a purchase order will be on it's way to a distributor in the next day or so.
That's not to say that we don't sometimes run out of stock, of course we do. We try to make sure we have enough stock to cover likely orders and take into account supplier lead times but from time to time the supply chain breaks down or we get a sudden rush. In this case we will put a notice on the website to tell customers that there will be a delay, if we know that the delay will be a long one we may even withdraw the item for sale. Customers who have ordered an out of stock item will be notified and of course if a delay is unacceptable a refund will be given.
